NEW DELHI: Ninety percent of India’s adult population has been fully vaccinated against COVID-19, Union Health Minister Mansukh Mandaviya Said on Monday, as the total number of vaccines administered in the country has crossed 198 crore. According to the data of the Ministry of Health, more than 10 lakh vaccine doses have been given till 7 pm on Monday.
The daily vaccination numbers are expected to increase with the compilation of the final report for the day by late night.
In a tweet, Mandaviya Said, “What an extraordinary achievement! With PM @NarendraModi ji’s mantra Sabka SaathSabka Prayas, India has achieved full immunization of 90% of its adult population. way to go! Together we will win the battle against the pandemic!”
The ministry said that so far 6,057,990 precautionary doses of the Kovid-19 vaccine have been given to people in the age group of 18-59.
It said that over 3.69 crore children in the 12-14 age group have been given the first dose and over 6.05 crore adolescents in the 15-18 age group have been given the first dose.
The nationwide vaccination campaign was launched on January 16 last year, in which health workers were vaccinated in the first phase. The vaccination of frontline workers started from February 2.
The next phase began on March 1 for people aged 60 and above and those aged 45 and above with specified comorbid conditions.
Vaccination of all people above 45 years of age began on 1 April. The government then decided to expand the vaccination campaign to all people over the age of 18 from May 1.
The vaccination of adolescents in the age group of 15-18 started from January 3 this year.
India began giving preventive doses of vaccines to health care and frontline workers and people aged 60 years and above from January 10.
The country began immunizing children aged 12-14 from March 16 and also removed the comorbidity clause, making everyone over the age of 60 eligible for the precautionary dose.
On 10 April, India began giving a precautionary dose of COVID-19 vaccines to all people over the age of 18.
