The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) on Saturday (August 21) announced the big news of star pacer Shaheen Shah Afridi’s exit from the Asia Cup 2022, which begins on August 27. Afridi recently got injured while playing the second Test against Sri Lanka in Galle. And he took a tour of the Netherlands to check his fitness. Notably, the pacer has also been ruled out of the Asia Cup and the upcoming series against England, which is a major blow to the Pakistan team. Meanwhile, Mohammad Amir took a jibe at the Pakistan Cricket Board after the news of Shaheen’s injury. (India vs Pakistan Asia Cup may happen thrice in 2022, read how here)
Amir, one of Pakistan’s best speed sensations, took to his official Twitter handle to react to the news of Afridi’s injury. The left-arm pacer had retired from international cricket in 2020 but later made himself available last year. The PCB did not consider Amir and his return. Afridi has played 40 T20Is for Pakistan so far and has taken 47 wickets since making his debut in 2018. Babar Azam revealed in a press conference that the side is trying to work on Afridi’s fitness for the Asia Cup.
As Shaheen Afridi is out now, Aamir tweeted, “Trending on Twitter but why,” with a cheeky emoji.

Coming back to Afridi, the pacer will miss the England series and the Asia Cup. He is expected to return for the New Zealand tri-series in October followed by the ICC T20 World Cup in Australia later this year. Shaheen suffered an injury to his right knee ligament during a Test match against Sri Lanka in Galle last month. Notably, Shaheen was impressive in the India vs Pakistan T20 World Cup 2021 clash when he dismissed KL Rahul, Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli in one night.
