Both the leaders are part of the G23 group.
Anand Sharma and Ghulam Nabi Azad are also part of the G23 group apart from the party which advocates many major changes in the party. Amidst all those activities, these resignations have raised questions about the relationship between the party and leaders like Sharma and Azad with the Congress. G-23 faction meeting was held at Azad’s house on the defeat of Congress
Five months ago, after the crushing defeat in five states, a dinner meeting of the disgruntled G-23 faction of the Congress was held at the house of Ghulam Nabi Azad. After this, speculations of rebellion over the leadership in the party had started. In the CWC meeting, Sonia and Rahul-Priyanka had offered their resignations, which was turned down by the leaders present in the meeting, but since then the G-23 faction has been talking about offering a credible alternative for the Lok Sabha elections. This threatened to break the party.
