Bairstow inspired by Kohli’s sledge to smash Indian bowlers, here is the proof

India vs England 5th Test: On the morning of the third day of the 5th and final Test between India and England at Edgbaston, England’s middle-order batsman Jonny Bairstow was a sight to behold. England were at 84 for 5 when Ben Stokes and Jonny Bairstow resumed proceedings. Both the batsmen were seen attacking the Indian bowlers with the very first ball on the third day. Some great shots were taken and some risky shots were also played. Indian fast bowlers spoke on a few occasions. Drama also happened. Shardul Thakur dismissed Stokes off Mohammed Shami and he was dismissed by Jasprit Bumrah at mid-off with his own bowling. It looked like Bairstow would switch off the ‘bazzball’ mode and take a more patient approach but that was not to be the case. He continued hitting Mohammad Siraj and Shardul Thakur outside the park.

In some ways, Virat Kohli is responsible for turning on Bairstow’s beast mode. Bairstow struggled to score runs off the first 60 balls. Then came the fight between the two cricketers, Kohli had something to say and Bairstow didn’t hold back. After this round of sledging, Bairstow played 52 balls and scored 78 runs. Before the altercation with Kohli, he had scored 13 runs in 61 balls. When rain interrupted before lunch was called, Bairstow smashed 91 off 113 balls, which included 12 fours and 2 sixes. Obviously Kohli’s sled had an impact on Bairstow. It could have worked for India too, a big shot turned out to be a catch. But Bairstow made sure he cleared the ropes with clean hitting.

India will have to bowl well from here to get a good lead in the second innings.
