KPCC working president and state coordinator of the yatra, Kodikunnil Suresh MP, said the yatra through Kerala will cover a distance of 450 km in seven districts in 19 days.
Suresh said the decision to organize the ‘yatra’, which will cover a distance of 3,750 km over a period of 150 days from Kanyakumari in Tamil Nadu to Jammu and Kashmir, was taken at a Chintan Shivir held in Rajasthan’s Udaipur in May this year.
The yatra, which touched 12 states and the national capital, was aimed at vehemently opposing Narendra Modi government At the Center and on the RSS agenda for the country.
He also said that the aim was to unite all democratic and secular groups to prevent the ruling government at the Center from retaining power in 2024.
Giving details of the ‘yatra’ that will proceed after reaching the southern state on September 11, the Congress MP said that Gandhi and his team of around 300 supporters would walk 25 km every day in two shifts – one from 7 am to 10 am. and others from 4 pm to 7 pm.
“The intermediate period will be used to meet prominent individuals, writers and scholars, youth, farmer groups, fishermen groups as well as the poor and marginalized sections of the society.

He also said that the national level coordinator of the Yatra and Congress veteran Digvijay Singh along with AICC General Secretary JaiRam Ramesh Will reach the state on August 30 in connection with the campaign and any additional instructions given by him will be included in the arrangements.
Giving details of those accompanying Gandhi on the yatra, Suresh said that out of 300, 100 have been selected by the All India Congress Committee (AICC) and they would accompany Gandhi on his 150-day long journey.
Of the remaining, 100 will be from the state from where the yatra is taking place and 100 will be from the states from where the yatra is not taking place, he said, adding that the latter group will be included in turn.
He said that in Kerala, the yatra will enter Parasala near the Tamil Nadu border and travel 450 km over a period of 19 days to Nilambur in Malappuram.
Suresh, along with KPCC vice-president VT Balram, also told the media that arrangements for travel and lodging have been made across the state for the 300 Strong Core Group accompanying Gandhi.
He said that apart from this, reception committees and coordinators have been selected from state to block level to ensure that the yatra is successful in the state.
Suresh said that Congress workers at the block level have been directed to go door-to-door to spread awareness about the yatra and collect donations for it.
He further said that despite Onam being around the corner, party leaders and workers are keeping their festivities aside and focusing on making the campaign to unite the country a success.
