New Delhi: Supreme court The Gujarat government and the Center on Thursday issued notices to the Gujarat government and the Center to waive off the punishment of 11 people convicted of killing 14 people and gang-raping women during the 2002 Godhra riots.
The 11 convicts, who were sentenced to life imprisonment, were released from the Godhra sub-jail on August 15 after the Gujarat government allowed their release as part of its remission policy. The convicts had completed more than 15 years in jail.

Bilkis Bano was 21 years old and five months pregnant while fleeing the violence that erupted after the Godhra train fire.
PIL has been filed by Subhashini Ali, revati songand Rooprekha Rani opposed the order of the Competent Authority of the Gujarat Government by which 11 persons accused in a set of heinous crimes were allowed to walk free on August 15 as per the exemption granted.
