Delhi High Court dismisses WhatsApp, Facebook’s appeal against CCI probe

New Delhi: The Delhi High Court on Thursday dismissed the appeals of WhatsApp and Facebook, ordering them to dismiss their challenge to an inquiry by the Competition Commission of India (CCI) into the instant messaging platform’s updated privacy policy for 2021.

A bench of Chief Justice Satish Chandra Sharma and Justice Subramaniam Prasad held that the single judge’s order was tenable and there was no merit in the appeal. In April last year, a single judge of the High Court had refused to interfere with the CCI-directed investigation on petitions filed by WhatsApp LLC and Facebook Inc – now the meta platform.

In January last year, the CCI itself decided to look into the updated privacy policy of WhatsApp based on news reports about the same.
