New Delhi: Farmer Leader Rakesh Tikait was detained on sunday Delhi Police While entering the national capital to participate in a protest against unemployment in the country.
A Delhi Police official said Tikait was stopped in Ghazipur when he was on his way to Jantar Mantar.
“Thereafter, he was detained and taken to Madhu Vihar police station, where the police spoke to him and requested him to return,” he said.
Tikait, national spokesperson of the Bharatiya Kisan Union (BKU) and a prominent face of the United Kisan Morcha (SKM), alleged that the Delhi Police was acting at the behest of the Centre.
“Delhi Police working at the behest of the government cannot suppress the voice of farmers. This arrest will bring a new revolution. This struggle will continue till the last breath. Na rukega, na thikega, na jhuk jao,” Tikait tweeted in Hindi .
Delhi minister and Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) leader Gopal Rai condemned Tikait’s detention.
Rai tweeted in Hindi, “Farmer leader Rakesh Tikait was going for employment movement, but police stopped him at the border. This is disgusting.”
The SKM and other farmer groups are organizing a ‘mahapanchayat’ at Jantar Mantar on Monday and they will pass through the jurisdiction of the outer district, which includes the Ghazipur border in Ghaziabad.
In this regard, adequate deployment of local police and outside force will be made at Tikri border of outer district, along major intersections, railway track and metro station to avoid any untoward incident.
