Former cricketer Michael Vaughan had asked Jack Crowley to take a lesson from Sachin Tendulkar’s historic innings of 241 runs at the SCG against Australia in 2004. Thereafter, the Master Blaster refrained from playing the off-side after getting a lot of dismissals. Sometimes balls have to be faced outside the off-stump.

As far as Crowley is concerned, he scored only nine runs off 17 balls on the second day of England’s fifth Test against India at Edgbaston in Birmingham. Jasprit Bumrah takes a false stroke from him and Crowley gives a simple catch to the slip cordon.

“Sachin Tendulkar had a tough tour of Australia in 2004, when the ball was going around and he was getting out while playing a drive. What did he do? He canceled the drive and scored 241 in Sydney. Crowley just Haven’t tried to do so till now. They haven’t tried to drive away for two hours when the ball is new.

“After all, they haven’t hit the opposition any other way. If you do the same thing, you’ll be traced again and again because bowlers aren’t stupid,” Vaughan was quoted as saying in The Telegraph.

After scoring a double century against Pakistan in 2020, Crowley has scored 602 runs in 17 matches at an average of 18.24, including a century against West Indies. In England, the right-handed batsman has scored 150 runs at an average of 11.53.

Vaughan said that Crowley needs to pull up his socks as soon as possible to stay in his position in the Three Lions’ national setup.

“Problems come when someone who is struggling like Zak Crowley is given too much support. After all, you have to recognize that there is a problem. Crowley has played in English conditions since his 267 runs against Pakistan in 2020 Has scored an average of 11 without a half-century.

Vaughan said, “An average of 11 in international cricket doesn’t guarantee a place in the team. Your currency is runs. It’s not like you’re a great lad or a good team man.”
