Indian racer Jahan Daruwalla is looking to take a positive from a tough weekend in the Silverstone round of the Formula 2 Championship as he crashed out of the top three for only the second time in seven rounds but still finished with double digits. The 23-year-old had finished 8th in the sprint race on Saturday.

He scored seven points over the weekend of damage limits for the lead Red Bull-backed racer in the standings.

Jahan started the sprint race from pole on a wet track and set up a comfortable starting lead. But the car set up for mixed conditions did not allow the wet-weather tires to be used to their optimum, leading to overheating and Jahan struggling for grip. 15th-ranked Prema teammate Dennis Hauger suffered a similar setback.

Excited to revise Sunday’s feature race, Jahan decided to play the long game, starting with the hard prime tyre. He cared for his tires during the early stages of the race and, briefly in the lead, unleashed his pace as his pitstop approached.

He continued to light up the timing screen on the grippier option tire as he struggled to return the order.

But getting a strong result in Sunday’s feature race was always going to be a daunting task, with Jahn starting in 10th place, as the qualifying strategy of setting one flying lap per tire set was not working as most of his rivals. had gained more momentum on his second ‘push’. ‘ lap. PTI BS BS
