Former MLA from Prantil assembly seat Mahendrasinh Baraiya said on Sunday that he would join the BJP on Monday at Kamalam headquarters in Gandhinagar.

A former Congress MLA from Gujarat’s Sabarkantha district has resigned from the party and is set to join the ruling Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) in the state. Former MLA from Prantil assembly seat Mahendrasinh Baraiya said on Sunday that he would join the BJP on Monday at Kamalam headquarters in Gandhinagar.

Baraiya had won the Prantil seat in 2012 by defeating BJP’s Jaisingh Chouhan, while in 2017 he lost the election to BJP’s Gajendrasinh Parmar by a margin of 2,551 votes. “I was an MLA between 2012 and 2017. In 2017, factionalism within the Congress led to my defeat. I informed the party leadership about this and requested them to work to control the damage. But there is no party policy for this. In fact, some senior party leaders are themselves involved in such things,” he told PTI.

Baraiya praised the Prime Minister Narendra Modi And said that the BJP government has worked for the development of his area, and added that he is joining the ruling party because of its emphasis on development. He will join the BJP in the presence of state BJP chief CR Patil, days after two senior Congress leaders and former state ministers joined the ruling party.

Raju Parmar, a three-time Congress Rajya Sabha MP from Gujarat between 1988 and 2006, and Naresh Rawal, a three-time MLA from Mehsana’s Vijapur assembly seat, joined the BJP on August 17. On May 3, there were Congress MLAs and Tribal MLAs. Leader Ashwin Kotwal had joined BJP.
