Stokes tried to break free and was dropped twice in quick succession when the first Thakur could not. Caught on a high ball and then Bumrah drops his counterpart to mid-off. However, Stokes did not last long and Bumrah took a difficult catch in the same position off the next ball of fast bowler Thakur.

Meanwhile, England were bowled out for 284 in reply to India’s total of 416 on the third day of the rescheduled fifth Test at Edgbaston on Sunday. Jonny Bairstow scored 106 and Sam Billings scored 36 runs for the hosts. India’s fast bowlers Mohammad Siraj (4/66) and Jasprit Bumrah (3/68) shared seven wickets between them.
