Supporters of a Congress councilor accused of attempting to kill a BJP functionary after he was released on bail from a Madhya Pradesh jail showered him with milk and welcomed him with a drum beat.
Some pictures of Indore corporator Raju Bhadauria welcoming him went viral on social media on Wednesday, following which the ruling BJP in MP claimed that the opposition Congress was glorifying a man accused of a serious crime and indulging in criminalization of politics.
According to police officials, Bhadauria was arrested on July 13 this year for attempting to murder rival BJP candidate Chandurao Shinde during the Indore civic polls from Kota in Rajasthan on July 6.
Bhadauria was booked under section 307 (attempt to murder) of the Indian Penal Code. He was released on bail on Wednesday.
After Bhadauria came out of a local jail, his supporters took out a procession with music and drum beats and fed him milk, which was criticized by the BJP. Madhya Pradesh BJP spokesperson Umesh Sharma claimed that Congress is criminalizing politics by organizing such events and glorifying an accused in a serious case.
However, state Congress secretary Neelabh Shukla claimed that a false FIR was lodged against Bhadauria at the behest of the BJP. Shukla further claimed that Bhadauria was not present at the spot during the alleged attack on Shinde.
