Maharashtra BJP leader and Union Minister Narayan Rane’s son Nilesh Rane on Sunday apologized to the people protesting against the proposed oil refinery in Ratnagiri for the alleged misbehavior by his supporters. Nilesh Rane visited Barsu village of Rajapur tehsil during the day to support the ongoing survey for the proposed oil refinery project in the area.

Ahead of the tour, villagers staged a protest against the officers who came for the survey, while supporters of Rane gathered at the site and allegedly abused the protesters, including women. The BJP leader later apologized to the villagers for the misbehavior of his supporters.

Locals in Barsu and surrounding villages are opposing the $60 billion project, which was earlier planned in Nanar village in the same district, but was opposed by local groups and the Shiv Sena at the time.
