Mumbai: Special squad cracks down on 15 errant cabbies in four days. Mumbai News – Times of India

Mumbai: Tardeo RTO Special SquadFounded on 1 September to assist taxi passenger facing refusal, rude behavior or overcharging island cityhas registered 15 cases in the last four days.
“Out of these, we resolved ten cases on the spot, and for other cases, we are issuing show-cause notices to the guilty drivers,” the regional transport officer said. Bharat Kalaskar,
RTOs have also started awareness campaigns at railway stations and taxi stands.
“We have so far met over 5,000 taxi drivers and issued warnings to them to refrain from denying passengers or overcharging,” Kalaskar said. He said stern action – including suspension of licences/permits – would be taken against errant drivers.
Calls can be made by the cab driver for refusal, rude behaviour, meter tampering or overcharging by any passenger. The special squad can be contacted on 9076201010 from 7 AM to 7 PM. After 7 pm you can WhatsApp or text message the complaint and also email it to [email protected]
There are three officers dedicated to this squad with a special vehicle that can be called to any part of the island city.
Each call will involve an Assistant Inspector or Inspector level officer. Two additional staff have been provided for back-end assistance in sending show cause notices to drivers etc.
