Nitish meets Lalu before Delhi tour for opposition unity

Chief minister of Bihar Nitish Kumar met RJD president Lalu Prasad here on Monday ahead of a scheduled visit to Delhi where he will meet leaders of various political affiliations to build opposition unity.

Kumar drove to 10, Circular Road, the residence of Prasad’s wife Rabri Devi, who was himself a former CM, where he was received by his younger son Tejashwi Yadav, who is currently the Deputy Chief Minister.

Sharing pictures of the two former arch rivals, Yadav tweeted: “Respected Chief Minister Nitish Kumar ji at our residence to meet RJD National President Lalu Prasad.” Prasad, who is in critical condition and awaiting a kidney transplant in Singapore, had his arm bandaged when he had come to meet Kumar after recovering from a shoulder injury in July.

Symbolizing both personal and political equations, the CM and deputy CM can be seen in a photograph helping a faltering Prasad climb down a few steps. Kumar, who snapped ties with the BJP less than a month ago, has vowed to bring together a disgruntled opposition from various parties across the country for the saffron party’s good fight in the 2024 Lok Sabha elections.

He received support from Telangana CM K Chandrasekhar Rao last week when the latter flew to the Bihar capital, met him and Prasad and called for a “BJP-free India”. Kumar, however, is not impressed by the concept of a “third front” and favors taking on the Congress, which is now moribund, yet maintains a presence that is hard to ignore.

At its JD(U) two-day convention here over the weekend, the party said it was not in favor of a “non-Congress, non-BJP option” suggested by Rao, who faces competition in the Telangana Rashtra Samithi. have to do. Southern State from Grand Old Party as well as Saffron Party. Kumar is currently leading a seven-party coalition consisting of the Congress and the Left. In his pro-Congress stand, Kumar is likely to get substantial support from Prasad, who is known to share excellent personal equations with Sonia Gandhi.
