Two people were killed and several others were injured, including three police officers. Texas officials said on Saturday night.
The Haltham City Police Department said a suspected gunman killed two civilians and then himself at a home in Haltham City, near Fort Worth, after a gunfight with police.
Haltum City Police Department Spokesperson Sergeant Rick Alexander said the shooting occurred when police were sent to a residential address at around 6:45 p.m. in response to a “shooting” dispatch call.
On reaching the spot, the police said that they found a civilian, a man, dead on the way home. Officials said a woman was found dead inside the residence. His identity was not released.
WFAA-TV reported that an elderly woman, who had called the police, was found with bullet marks in her leg. He is expected to stay.
Haltum City Police later said that the woman 911. is called The second time was at 6:52 pm, seven minutes after his initial call, when he said shots were on, Star-Telegram reports.
The police then found the suspected gunman and a shootout ensued, Sikandar said.
Three officers were shot in the scuffle and taken to local hospitals. As per the report, each officer suffered non-fatal injuries.
He said officers eventually found the suspected gunman dead in what is believed to be a self-inflicted gunshot wound, he said.
Officials said the gunman was wearing a “battle belt” and had two weapons, including a “military-style rifle” and a handgun.
The identity of the gunman was not released.
It was not immediately clear whether the suspected gunman had any links with the victims.
Police cordoned off the surrounding area till 10:30 pm and encouraged residents to avoid the area or stay in their homes.
“We do not believe there is any danger to the public at this time,” Haltum City Police said in their last update.
“We would like to thank our partner agencies for helping us this evening. We would also like to thank our wonderful residents thoughts, prayersAnd best wishes to our injured officers and we express our sympathies and condolences to the victims who were affected by this incident,” the department added in a later post.
The Holtham City Police Department will host a press event Sunday afternoon to share additional information.
