Ulhasnagar: One dead due to slab collapse during repair of building. Thane News – Times of India

Ulhasnagar: A laborer died on the spot while another was injured when a slab of a flat collapsed in Thane district. Ulhasnagar on Thursday.
The incident happened during interior repair work of a flat on the fifth floor inside Komal Park Bhawan in Ulhasnagar.
Komal Park building located near Gol Maidan area has been declared as dangerous building in the list of Ulhasnagar Municipal Corporation.UMC) and till now, it was served three notices.
Earlier on 2 August 2021; May 4, 2022; And on June 14, 2022, the UMC issued a notice to the building asking it to be repaired.
The Komal Park building has 21 flats and 2 shops. On getting information about the incident, UMC Fire Brigade, UMC Commissioner Aziz Sheikh, Additional Commissioner Jamir Langrekar and Assistant Commissioner Ganesh Shimpi visited the spot and with the help of disaster management personnel, the citizens were evacuated safely.

Ganesh Shimpi, assistant municipal commissioner of UMC said, “The owner of flat number 502 was carrying out internal repairs at his level, during which part of the slab collapsed in which one laborer died on the spot and the other got injured.”
UMC Additional Municipal Commissioner Jamir Langrekar said, “Since the said building comes under C2B category, it needs repairs. But it has been observed that the flat owners residing in the building have not paid attention to it.”
In the past too, parts of many such buildings in Ulhasnagar had collapsed, especially those built during 1994-1995.
The Komal Park building was also constructed in 1994. During this period, many such buildings were built in Ulhasnagar in which the poor quality of sand sand was used.
In the last one year, the UMC had also taken action against many such buildings, only some parts of which were demolished, which were later illegally repaired by the builders.
